Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE), as a member of the Mudi Catchment Conservation, participated in a tree planting exercise organized by the Blantyre Water Board in Blantyre.
Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Liana Kakhobwe Chipota, who presided over the ceremony, urged all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the survival and proper care of the planted trees.
“It would be disheartening to see these trees perish or neglected after the effort and resources invested today. I urge everyone to support the Blantyre Water Board in nurturing these tree seedlings,” the minister emphasized.
The Blantyre Water Board relies on Mudi Dam, located within the Mudi River, to supply water to the growing population of the commercial city.
Over 2000 tree seedlings were planted along the Mudi River Catchment to provide essential cover and buffer.
The event also saw participation from Traditional Authority Kapeni, representatives from various government agencies, private civil society organizations, companies, schools, media, and the general public.
