Vacancy: Programme Officer
A vacancy for the position of Programme Officer exists at the Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE) Head Office, Blantyre.
About CURE:
The Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE) is an apex environmental organization in the Environment and Natural Resources Management Sector established in 1994. Registered under the Trustees Incorporations Act in 1999 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), CURE aims to provide technical support and enhance networking among NGOs, the Malawian Government, donors, and other entities.
Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Programme Officer to join our growing and focused dynamic team. The ideal candidate should be a self starter and have a strong background in environment management or conservation biology and a deep commitment to issues revolving around sustainable development and circular economy.
This role offers extensive exposure to community-based natural resources management and requires a pro-active approach to advocacy on emerging environmental issues. The potential for growth is huge as CURE will be embarking on new portfolio projects and engagements in the sector that is pivotal to social economic development as the country aims to attain Malawi Vision 2063 as a development blueprint, the continental Agenda 2063 vision and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement community-based natural resource management programs
- Advocate for Green Spaces Initiative as part of biodiversity conservation in urban planning
- Promote climate change adaptation strategies at the grassroots level
- Passionate about land restoration and green related livelihoods investments interventions and circular economy
- The candidate should be very familiar with proposal development process
- Good report writer and well conversant with story telling techniques using both text, pictorial and statistics
- Conduct environmental education and awareness campaigns
- Conversant with the management of thin plastics in accordance with the Plastic Management Regulations of 2015 as per the Environment Management Act
- Stay informed about and integrate emerging issues in the natural resources management sector
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field plus three to five years experience. Those with a Masters degree and well exposed technically will have an added advantage.
